I’ve read a couple of duds lately but this is probably the worst fantasy book I have ever read. Don’t waste your time on this book! The only reason I gave it one star, is because amazon won’t let you give it none. It is terrible on several different levels. It is poorly written. The dialogue made me laugh out loud several times. The book basically consists of a boring story, peppered intermittently with moments of suspense. You waste your time in reading this.

What the heck is going on? My son and daughter never got past the first book. I’ve just re-read all the reviews, now that I’ve finished the first three books for myself, and I’m completely mystified by all the glowing reports. How can anyone compare this thing to Harry Potter? Where are the truthful reviews?
As a long-time fantasy and sci-fi fan, this just didn’t grab me. Riordan’s writing is sloppy. He steals from Greek mythology and thinks readers are too stupid to realize he’s dressed up Hercules and the heroes in sheep’s clothing.
It is a chore to get through. The characters flat and unengaging. The events unfold more as after-the-fact. There’s no sitting on edge of your seat awaiting the next revelation. It’s more like riding in the back seat asking “are we there yet?”
Maybe it is more appealing to very young readers who have never read anything else but my kids and I who have read many fantasy novels couldn’t have been more disappointed.
The too few negative reviews are accurate. Read ALL the reviews before buying a Riordan book.

As I wait for the few good young adult books out there; The Hunger Games Sequel, Syren (Septimus Heap), and The Lost Symbol. I decided to buy a cheap paperback from Borders. I want my eight bucks back!
I normally only try to write good reviews, and i’ve only said bad things about one other book (The Fire Within). I always try to see the strengths of the book, but right now I am mostly talking about the series itself, and the books are about as strong as Popeye going a long time without spinach.
The main thing I noticed in book one was that the author continued to bounce around from monster to monster without even a basic plot to the story. His characters seemed to be in the “shallow end” emotionally, if you catch my drift.
The second book was so boring that I stopped reading it for two months. I decided to give it another chance and was actually shocked by the twist ending.
Nevertheless I gave Titans Curse a shot and found out that the ol’ Rick Riordan (aka Broken Record) has slipped back into his usual B movie dialog.
“I know that you fool. But where?” (Imagine Foghorn Leghorn saying this)
“Say what?” (Because that’s really how teenagers talk. You nailed that one Rick)
“No you idiot! The tyrannasouros teeth.”
It is definitly not these laughable lines that make me turn the page because it seems that the author used to write for the ‘Smurfs’ cartoon.
It also seems that the books are rushed to get to a point where nothing happens. Don’t believe the other reviews, this book is horrible.
